This online class is an introduction to Western Canadian history through Indigenous lenses. Students are introduced to both pre-contact and post-contact history of Turtle Island and Alberta, with a focus on how pre-contact trade later evolved into the Fur Trade. Students examine how Europeans factions were newcomers to a system of trade, kinship and ceremony that existed among Indigenous people since time immemorial. Sessions are held online via Zoom.
